Ultralight & Light-Sport Aircraft Council

EAA has the benefit of the EAA Ultralight & Light-Sport Aircraft Council, who’s members represents a vast spectrum of ultralight and light-sport aviation, airpark owners, flight instructors, dealers and chapter presidents. The EAA Ultralight Council members volunteer to help EAA better serve the needs of EAA members involved in ultralight and light-sport aviation.

Carla, EAA 245755, is chairman of EAA’s Ultralight Council. She is a retired teacher. Carla and her late husband owned and operated an ultralight flightpark in central Indiana. When the state realized it had no rules to govern the operations there, she was instrumental in establishing state minimum standards for flightparks. She was a charter member in the Airpark Owners & Operators Association (AOOA) and served as it’s corresponding secretary, advising airports nationwide. She has been actively involved in flight training, instructor refresher courses, Rotax engine repair, aircraft sales and assembly and volunteering at the major air shows. She organized and conducted many statewide safety seminars in Indiana. Along with service on the Ultralight Council, she has served as secretary of EAA Chapter 156 and president of EAA Ultralight Chapter 81. She possesses a love of flying and genuinely cares about the Ultralight community. Carla has been a member of EAA’s Ultralight Council since 2001.

Jim, EAA 277908, lives in the Birmingham, Alabama area where he is a member of EAA Chapter 152. He soloed in 1967 and has accumulated approximately 1400 hours of flight time. Jim is a commercial pilot with SEL, MEL, instrument and glider ratings. He is currently flying a two place Quad City Challenger that he constructed. Jim is a past EAA Ultralight Flight Instructor, and current Technical Counselor and South East Regional EAA Fly-In aircraft judge. He is employed as a firefighter/paramedic. Jim and his wife, Susana, run a nylon webbing fabrication business. Jim has been a member of EAA’s Ultralight Council since 2001.

John, EAA 360522, has worked as a power station electrician in south Florida for over 20 years. He has been involved in various ultralight groups and is currently serving as president of Ultralight Chapter 71 of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. John and his wife, Patricia, are regular volunteers at Sun ‘n Fun and AirVenture, as well as other EAA events. He is a recipient of the EAA Chapter Major Achievement Award and is currently working on a Mini-Max homebuilt ultralight project. John has been flying since 1977, and holds an Associate Degree in Aviation as well as a commercial pilot certificate with instrument and multi-engine ratings. His main interests focus on ultralight and light plane activities. John has been a member of EAA’s Ultralight Council since 1999.
